“Pakistani Taliban ‘have not lost morale,’ leader tells CNN”

This story is very important because it shows what the 30,000 new troops are getting into when they’re deployed over to Afghanistan. With President Obama sending troops over last week, and now this, I think many American’s will shift their concerns back to Afghanistan. The fact that he “feels confident,” despite the American Military bearing down on him is disturbing to me. Also, while this is a bit off topic, I find it strange that CNN is talking to one of the leaders of the Taliban.

Woods on crash: ‘This situation is my fault’

This story is newsworthy because from the start, I think many people felt there was much more to the story than he was just strolling out of his house for a drive at 2:30 AM and hit a fire hydrent. The fact that he said “I will certainly make sure this doesn’t happen again,” is strange to me because how can you guarantee that you’ll never get in a car accident again? Because at this point that’s all we, the public, know; he got into a car accident and nothing more. Needless to say, I will be staying tuned for this story.

“Police: Facebook site may have led to beating of 12-year-old”

This story is newsworthy because it shows how hard the middle school years can be for any kid. Because some idiot made an event on facebook entitled “Kick a Ginger Day” these middle school kids took it literally and actually hurt a 12 year old boy with red hair. Although it says that the boy wasn’t seriously hurt, it also said that no one was arrested. I don’t think the boys who did this to him should be arrested but they should have to pay a fine, so they can realize that this isn’t something that is acceptable. Ahhh, the joys of being out of grade school!

“On the eve of greatness: pressure and sports prodigies”

This story to me is both very impressive, and at the same time disappointing. While it is newsworthy, in my opinion, it shouldn’t be something CNN published. This kid can definitely play basketball, but at 9 years old no one needs to be hearing he will eventually be in the NBA. He’s already saying that he hopes the NBA changes the rule that you have to go to college at least one year before entering the NBA, so he can go right to the NBA from high school. As I said, he is definitely an impressive basketball player, but at only 9, no kid needs to have his head getting big already.

“Inmates come to guard’s aid in jail attack”

This is a very nice and definitely newsworthy story. Thanks in part to movies, television shows, and even the occasional news story, about prison fights involving inmates and guards, it was nice to see a story where the inmates are helping the guard. Because we’re so used to seeing it the other way, watching the video you think that the rest of the inmates are going to help the other inmate hurt the guard, but then you see them punching the other inmate. It’s definitely a testament to the way they’re treated by the guards, and even though they are prisoners they’re still treated well.
